Li-An LO’s Homa (Griffin) is inspired by the mysterious, eponymous creatures of Greek and Persian mythology, the mightiest creatures on earth: their bodies and nature half lion (the most powerful on land), half eagle (the ruler of the sky), they inhabited and nested in the vast Scythian grasslands — modern-day Ukraine and Central Asia. Owing to their power, the gods tasked them with guarding the abundant mines of gold and precious stones in the area, thus putting them in constant struggle against the mighty one-eyed Cyclops who tried to steal those riches.
The Griffins’ own struggles — the one of their two natures, internally, the one with the one-eyed giants, externally — remind Lo of our great unknown ever-changing human relationships with ourself and the environment. We constantly make choices, we adjust, we persist, colliding with our emotions, with our surroundings, blending, learning to co-exist with it all. We become Griffins ourselves, struggling with change while guarding what’s most precious in ourselves, in our own relationships.
